چکیده

The ethanol fermentation process using beet molasses as the feedstock has been studied. The fermentation process, which was coupled with a membrane separation unit (Pervaporation), was compared to a conventional batch process. Ethanol was produced by Saccharomyces cerevisiae ATCC 9763 and recovered by pervaporation system using a composite polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membrane with 10 μm thickness and 0.0132 m surface area. Initial sugar concentration was adjusted to 60g/l and fermentation lasted for 120 hours. Sugar consumption, ethanol production, cell growth and also Flux and Selectivity of membrane were measured by a function of time. Sugar conversion, ethanol productivity and cell yield in the coupled system were %94.25, 0.69 . gr lit hr and 0.107 utilized sugar gr cell gr respectively. Also average flux and selectivity of 0.204 hr m kg × 2 and 7.993 respectively were achieved.

Enhanced Bioethanol Production in Batch Fermentation by Pervaporation Using a PDMS Membrane Bioreactor

The integration of batch fermentation and membrane-based pervaporation process in a membrane bioreactor (MBR) was studied to enhance bioethanol production compared to conventional batch fermentation operated at optimum condition. For this purpose, a laboratory-scale MBR system was designed and fabricated. Dense hydrophobic Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membrane was used for pervaporation. For fer...

PDMS/ceramic composite membrane for pervaporation separation of acetone–butanol–ethanol (ABE) aqueous solutions and its application in intensification of ABE fermentation process

Pervaporation (PV) has attracted increasing attention because of its potential application in bio-butanol recovery from fermentation process. In this work, PDMS/ceramic composite membrane was employed for PV separation of acetone–butanol–ethanol (ABE) aqueous solutions. The influence of coupling effect on the molecular transport during the PV process was systematically investigated. The separat...

BIOTECHNOLOGICAL PRODUCTS AND PROCESS ENGINEERING Increased productivity of Clostridium acetobutylicum fermentation of acetone, butanol, and ethanol by pervaporation through supported ionic liquid membrane

Pervaporation proved to be one of the best methods to remove solvents out of a solvent producing Clostridium acetobutylicum culture. By using an ionic liquid (IL)polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) ultrafiltration membrane (pore size 60 nm), we could guarantee high stability and selectivity during all measurements carried out at 37°C. Overall solvent productivity of fermentation connected with continuo...

Modeling of esterification in a batch reactor coupled with pervaporation for production of ethyl acetate catalyzed by ion- exchange resins

In the chemical industry, process intensification is needed to meet important goals such as sustainable and eco-friendly processes. For esterification reaction the “produce more with less pollution” objective can be achieved by coupling reaction and separation in a so called integrated process. In this work a model for describing the esterification reaction of ethyl acetate in pervaporation mem...
